AI 'threat' to humanity, ex-Google CEO warns

Google's former CEO Eric Schmidt has expressed concern about artificial intelligence. He has said that artificial intelligence can harm people in the near future. Schmidt warned of potential "existential risks" from the fast-evolving technology and also talked about creating regulations to regulate AI.

Serious damage to people from AI

Expressing concern on AI, the former CEO of Google said that this AI can take people from causing serious harm to human death. Speaking during the CEO Council meeting of the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, he commented that today is not so much a problem, but in the near future it will be zero. Day exploits, cyber problems and new biological diseases have to be faced.

AI needs to come up with rules

He warned about the future pitfalls of this technology and also talked about bringing rules to regulate AI. Schmidt served as Google CEO from 2001 to 2011 and Alphabet's executive chairman from 2015 to 2017.

Other big tech companies have also expressed concern

Apart from the former CEO of Google, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also recently met with the owners of OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic to talk about the threat to AI. These companies said in their statement that they will work together to cover the losses caused by the transformation technology. However, CEOs of some tech companies have also opposed him.
