Google Doodle: Who is this Indian mermaid?

Today, Indian long distance swimmer Aarti Saha's 80th birthday is being celebrated with Google Doodle. He was born on September 24, 1940 in Kolkata. Aarti Saha was the first Asian woman to cross the English Channel. An adventure that is considered to be similar to climbing Mount Everest. He covered a distance of 42 miles from Cape Grice Nez, France to Sandgate, England. His picture is featured in Google Doodle.

Here are some things about Aarti Saha ...

- Saha won his first gold medal for swimming when he was just five years old. At just 19 years old, he stunned the world by crossing the English Channel.

- At the age of 11, Saha became the youngest member of the first team to represent the newly independent India at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland.

- At the age of 18 Saha made his first attempt to cross the English Channel, although Aarti Saha failed but he never gave up.

- Exactly one month later he conquered several miles of water waves and water currents to complete his journey of this adventure. Which was a historic victory for women all over India.

- Saha became the first woman to receive the Padma Shri in 1960.

- The Indian Post also issued a postage stamp in 1998 to inspire women through their lives.

- He won 22 awards in his 6-year state career between 1945 and 1951.
