Fear of corona, asteroids also come out wearing 'masks', scientists surprised
Nainital, Ta. 30 April 2020, Thursday
A very large and potentially dangerous asteroid passed close to Earth on Wednesday and its images took scientists by surprise. Looking at the images of the asteroids, the scientists got the impression that they were wearing masks on the planet. However, that illusion was in fact caused by the lines formed in the small mountains and plains that came over it.
The asteroid passed at a speed of 19,000 km per hour on Wednesday afternoon, maintaining a safe distance from Earth. However, the scientists had already clarified that there was no danger from it and it was constantly being monitored. Scientists named it (52768) 1998 OR2 and on April 29 it passed closest to Earth.
According to Shashi Bhushan Pandey, a scientist at the Aryabhata Institute of Observatory Science and Research (ARIS), the asteroid that passed by on April 29 was relatively large and could have caused a disaster if it had collided with the Earth. Although it passed closest to Earth, it was at a distance of 6.3 million km, which is 16 times the average distance between the Earth and the Moon.
NASA placed it in the range of potentially dangerous asteroids. Such potentially dangerous asteroids pass close to Earth's orbit at a distance of less than 7.5 million km. According to this measure, it passed close to the earth at a distance of 12 lakh km less than that.
Orbiting the Sun between Earth and Mars in 1,344 days, the asteroid will now pass close to Earth again on May 18, 2031, but at that time it will pass a further 19 million km.
A small asteroid gave him company
Now in 2048 and 2062 It will pass farther but on April 16, 2079 it will pass very close to the Earth at a distance of only 1.8 million km and if for any reason it will wander, it will prove fatal to the Earth. Apart from this big asteroid, there is also a small asteroid that seemed to be giving him company. It passed around it a few thousand kilometers from Earth and scientists named it 2020 HS7.
Scientists reported that there was no danger to Earth from small asteroids. Small asteroids of this shape pass safely very close to the Earth every month. The 2020 HS7 had a diameter of four to six meters and even if such a small asteroid collided with the Earth, it would be destroyed in the Earth's atmosphere before it.
