Keep this in mind while backing up data in WhatsApp...
Have you turned on the setting to back up your data in WhatsApp ? This setting is useful. But one of the safety features can be inconvenient at times. Let us know both what is the convenience and what is the inconvenience.
You must know that WhatsApp takes a local backup of our data every night at two o'clock. Along with that we can also backup our WhatsApp data in our Google Drive account.
For backup to drive we can choose any one of five options:
1. Never backup to a drive
2. Backup is taken only when we click the backup button ourselves
3. Backup is done daily when internet connection is available
4. Backup is done once every week
5. Backed up every month
While doing this setting we have to tell our Google account. Along with that, we can decide whether to backup the mobile data or not and also decide whether to backup the videos in WhatsApp.
We cannot see WhatsApp data by going to our Google Drive account because this data is visible only in WhatsApp app. Because of this, if for some reason we want to restore all our data in WhatsApp or want to take WhatsApp data to a new phone, it takes work to restore the backed up data only.
So far we have talked about backing up and restoring WhatsApp data.
Now let's talk about how this can cause trouble. Until recently , the data backed up in Google Drive was not encrypted, which means that when we send a message to someone in WhatsApp, it remains encrypted and there is a built-in system between the two ends so that no third party can see the message. But this Khambati lock disappeared when the WhatsApp chats were backed up to Google Drive. Over time, WhatsApp corrected this flaw and provided the facility to encrypt the backed up data as well. Only this time it left the decision to the user i.e. us whether to encrypt the backed up data or not.
If you turn on the option of encrypted backup, you will be asked to set a password. Then we decide the password but if we do not record it in a proper and safe place, it may cause trouble in the future.
We must believe that our WhatsApp data is properly backed up. A backup is indeed taken but when it comes time to open a WhatsApp account with an old number in a new phone and we choose the option to restore the backup data in the drive, we are asked for the password! Because we do not know the password, our car stops here!
If the WhatsApp account is still active in the old phone at the time of arrival, then there is no need to worry. We can turn off encryption of backup data by going to chat backup in WhatsApp settings in old phones. After that, with patience, you have to back up all the WhatsApp data again in Google Drive and then if you try to restore the data in Google Drive in the new phone, then the password will not be blocked!
