Successful landing of private company Intuitive's Odysseus spacecraft on the South Pole of the Moon
- After 50 years, America again on the lunar soil
- Now the future human settlement on the moon will be prepared according to the Artemis program: NASA scientists in the lander
Washington: Today America has returned to the moon after 50 years. Today, Thursday, February 23, 2024, at 6:2 pm (US time), the lander Odysseus of America's first private company, Intuitive Machines (Houston), has landed safely on the South Pole of the Moon. The Odysseus lander touched down on the lunar surface at 4:30 a.m. Indian time on Friday.
America's space research organization National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) administrator Bill Nelson has expressed his happiness on this historic occasion by showing such enthusiasm. Intuitive Machines Company has developed such a Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPES) program with technical and financial support from NASA.
NASA's Apollo-17 spacecraft was launched on December 7, 1972. Then, after exactly 13 days of space travel, Apollo-17 spacecraft landed on the lunar surface on December 19. Apollo-17 had two American astronauts, Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt. Thus after 1972, that is, during the last 50 years, no American astronaut or any spacecraft has landed on the moon. Today, after five decades, the lander of the American private company Odysseus has landed on the moon.
Bill Nelson has also reported that the Odysseus lander also contains our NASA scientific instruments. Also, with Odysseus there is also a new and promising dream in the direction of space exploration.
On the other hand, Flight Director and Chief Technology Officer Tim Crain announced to the applause of his colleagues that yes, our Odysseus lander has landed at the Moon's South Pole without any hitches. However, as Odysseus slowly descends to the lunar surface, there is also a slightly alarming atmosphere.
However, shortly after Odysseus landed safely on the lunar surface, the mission controllers lost contact with him. Thus, it was expected that such an alarming situation would arise. However, over time, everything fell apart. The Odysseus lander has landed in its correct position. The lander has also sent the first image of the Moon with a message to Earth. The process of sending other information has also started.
Intuitive Machine's Chief Executive Officer Stephen Altemus informed that yes, we know that there are some anxious moments when the lander lands on the lunar surface. However, all goes well and Odysseus lands on the moon's south pole.
The Odysseus lander, on the other hand, has to complete its exploration in seven days, as the sun will set at the moon's south pole, leaving it pitch black. So the solar panels of the Odysseus lander will not receive solar energy. At the same time, a super humid atmosphere will also be created on the lunar surface. The temperature will become extremely cold as minus(-) 200.
On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 6:04 pm, India's name has been written in golden letters in the history of space exploration. On this historic day, Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3's Vikram Lander landed smoothly, successfully and safely at 70 degrees latitude near the South Pole of the Moon. So far no lander of any country in the world has successfully landed at this particular place on the South Pole of the Moon. In this regard, India has become the first country to successfully land its lander on the South Pole of the Moon.
NASA sources expressed happiness and said that along with the Odysseus lander, our science and technology has also reached the moon. Now, with the help of this scientific device, preparations can be made for the future human settlement on the moon under our Artemis program. There are devices
