The 1.2 mile long asteroid passed at a distance of 39 lakh km from the Earth

Washington, April 29, 2020, Wednesday

On the morning of April 29, an asteroid was about to pass close to Earth, causing panic among the people. At 3.26am Indian time today, the asteroid passed at a safe distance from Earth and no damage was reported. According to scientists, the 1.2-mile-wide asteroid has traveled 39 million km from Earth, a distance 16 times greater than the distance between Earth and the Moon. Although this distance is trivial in the language of space science, what was once considered one of these catastrophic asteroids will return 59 years later. In 2079, it will pass 3.5 times closer than the current distance, so scientists will keep a close eye on it.

There have been more than 50,000 asteroid passes in the last 50 years, but fortunately the Earth is safe. Every time an asteroid is about to pass, the fear is spread among the people as to how much danger is posed to the earth, because if one forgets that if a planet collides with the earth, the earth will not be destroyed in an instant. There is evidence that a giant dinosaur was wiped out by a planetary collision on Earth 40 million years ago.

The earth is the home of human beings and it is a natural reaction to be concerned for its safety. The Aresibo Observatory in Puerto Rico has taken a picture of the asteroid named 52768 (1998 OR2). The asteroid was discovered in 1998, hence the number attached to its name. The small hills and figures on such a small planet are very captivating. It was seen moving at a speed of 19461 miles per hour. Anne Virki, chief of planetary radar at NASA, has seen a picture of the planet.
