Real-time underwater marine robot: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and Palakkad have achieved a tremendous achievement in developing real-time underwater marine robot for underwater surveillance. The function of this robot will be close underwater monitoring and verification. Its level of efficacy would be very high, risk would be extremely low and it would likely be cost-effective, the researchers said. Jagdish Kadian, assistant professor at the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at IIT Mandi, said that learning about the ocean's internal currents from history led to the conclusion that only by placing instruments on research ships deep can one gain more insight into the ocean.

Kadian, a co-author of the study, said that a typical cruise ship stays on the surface for a month or two, limiting the possibility of producing a comprehensive report on the sea. So it has often been said that changes in the sea do not wait for a ship to come to measure them. This led to the difficulties in under-sampling and the high cost of setting up observation platforms, which necessitated technologies that could be used to observe the ocean for long periods of time at low cost. Marine Robot is the result of that.

He further said that aging dams are a major concern globally and increasingly sophisticated methods are needed to monitor the condition of dams due to the increasing pressure placed on the environment. Sending a human diver into it can prove fatal and the method can be time-consuming and expensive. Integrating marine robots instead can offer a safer, cost effective and technology advanced solution to the dam inspection process. Earlier this work was done by human divers. Due to this, their health was affected and their life was also put in danger.
