Govt orders social media platforms to remove ads on all fraud loan apps and betting apps within a week

In this age of technology, cyber crimes are also increasing rapidly. Cases of online fraud and scams are coming up every day. Now the government has become strict about online fraud. The central government is constantly taking new steps to curb it. Central government has taken major action on fraudulent loan apps and betting apps. These apps are being banned. On Tuesday, the ministry ordered the removal of illegal loan apps and betting apps. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that we are working on stopping the advertisements of fraudulent loan apps. This is how fraud loan apps are advertised on some platforms.

Fraud loan apps ad removal warning

The Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology has warned all social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Google to remove advertisements of fraudulent loan apps from their platforms within a week. The IT Ministry has made it clear that social media platforms that advertise these apps on their platforms will be held responsible if the public is cheated in any way.

IT rules are changing

Apart from this, the government is also going to amend the existing IT rules. The amendment aims to prevent social media platforms from showing such advertisements. A senior government official has given this information. Once the new rule is in place, these platforms will also risk losing their legal immunity for hosting such ads.

Insist on KYC processing called KYDFA

The ministry has urged the RBI to make the KYC process more comprehensive for banks. The proposed KYC process is named 'Know Your Digital Finance App' (KYDFA).

Government announced guidelines for social media platforms

The government on Tuesday announced guidelines for social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). The government has said that under the current IT rules, they should take immediate action against deepfake videos. Strict legal action will be taken against such videos if they are not removed from their platforms.

The government has told the social media platforms which part of the current IT rules are directed to curb such content. Rule 3(1)(b) of the IT Rules directs the blocking of any content that infringes the rights of any person. This type of content also prohibits private, indecent or pornographic content. Apart from this, they should also prevent content that misleads users and presents false facts such as using the identity of a person.

Google Play Store has removed 2500 fraudulent loan apps

During the winter session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Lok Sabha that acting on the demand of the government, Google has now removed about 2,500 apps from the Play Store. The apps that were removed were scamming people in the name of giving loans. RBI issued a white list of apps with India. This list was shared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology with Google. He said the government is working with the Reserve Bank of India and other regulatory authorities to curb fraudulent and fraudulent loan apps. The 2,500 apps that Google has removed from the Play Store have been removed between April 2021 and July 2022. All these apps were cheating people in the name of giving loans. The government is now seriously monitoring all types of loan applications. If you are also using any app, delete it from your phone immediately.

Google has updated the policy

Google has changed the policy of lending apps. Google has added some new rules. All apps available on the Google Play Store that claim to offer loans to people will be required to comply with the rules. Google has identified around 3500 fraud loan apps out of which 2500 apps have been removed.
