How to identify viral fake videos on social media? know

Identify fake videos on Social Media: Currently 2 videos of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas are viral on social media. In one of the videos, a child is crying sitting next to his father's dead body. Also another video shows a pregnant woman's stomach exposed and claims to document the testimony of paramilitary forces handling the bodies of victims after a Hamas attack in Israel on 7 October 2023.

Deepfake has become challenging

Although both of these videos are real, they have nothing to do with the events they claim to be about. The child's clip is from Syria in 2016 while the woman's video is from Mexico in 2018. Deepfakes have been reported in many recent news. Creating these types of videos does not require much resources. It is also very easy to simply change the date and location or use a clip from a video game to present it as a battlefield.

People become delusional due to social media virality

These types of fake videos can be avoided by taking some precautions. For which it is necessary to get information about the source of that video. However, it is very difficult to get information about it. Because most people believe what they see on social media without knowing it or realizing it. Because most people are not ready to believe that they too can be deceived.

It is very easy to identify fake videos

Images or videos that provoke public sentiments, despite being fake, quickly go viral on social media. People can't understand in anger whether the video they are promoting is genuine or fake. By keeping just a few things in mind, the difference between genuine and fake videos can be discerned. Like do you really know what you're looking at? Is the person posting the footage an established reporter whose credibility is questionable? Is there a link to a longer video? Remember, the smaller the clip, the more careful you need to be.
