The countdown of inactive accounts on Google has already started. From December 1, Gmail accounts that have been inactive for two years will be deleted.

The company has made big preparations

In May, the company revealed a change in policy from completely erasing Gmail account content to now deleting accounts. This change puts millions of inactive Gmail accounts at risk.

Google's updated inequitable account policy allows Gmail accounts to be deleted after two. It includes drives, meets, docs as well as YouTube and pictures. It is important to note that this policy applies only to individual accounts and not to accounts linked to organizations.

In announcing this update, Google emphasized that their internal analysis showed that inactive accounts are 10 times less likely to have 2FA configured, making such accounts more vulnerable to potential security breaches and leaks. As a result, inactive or unused accounts can be targeted by dangerous fraudsters, leading to unauthorized access and potential misuse for malicious activities.

Google recommends logging in once every two years to protect your Gmail account from becoming inactive. It is not necessary to sign into Gmail specifically. Any activity on a Google related service is sufficient to keep your account status active.

How to avoid account deletion

If you want to protect your Gmail account from deletion and keep its content safe then all you have to do is activate it because if you don't do this then you won't be able to use this account after December 1.
