A partial lunar eclipse will be seen across India on Sharad Poonam, although only 6 percent of the moon will cover the Earth.

New Delhi, October 27, 2023, Friday

Tomorrow is Saturday Sharad Punam which is also called Big Punam in folk language. In Gujarat, Garba and Ras of Sharad Punam have special importance but this time there is going to be lunar eclipse in Sharad Purni. Thus, this is an astronomical phenomenon, but there are many types of beliefs about it. Although the final lunar eclipse of the year 2023 is Chandragras i.e. partial, it will be visible across India.

When the earth comes between the sun and the moon, the moon casts a shadow on it, so it appears as if the moon has disappeared or the color changes. This shadow itself is known as a lunar eclipse. However, when the lunar eclipse occurs in Sharad Purni, only about 6 to 8 parts will be covered. Hence, the visible effect of the lunar eclipse will be less. The types of eclipses are based on the shadow cast on the moon.

When the earth completely covers the moon, the moon becomes red or copper in color, hence the effect of red color is called blood moon. In a partial lunar eclipse, only part of the Moon is covered by the Earth's shadow. Due to this black color is covered on a certain part of the moon. The lunar eclipse of Sharadpoonam starts at 11.31 am IST on 28th October. At 1.05 pm, the Moongrass Eclipse will have the greatest effect.

According to NASA, the lunar eclipse will be seen in all parts of India. Apart from this, it will also be seen in the areas of the Eastern Hemisphere. It includes some parts of Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia. Not in America but can be seen in some parts of Brazil. Lunar eclipse will be seen on September 17, 2024 after Sharadpurnima eclipse.
