No longer need a password to login to LinkedIn and X? Know how the new technique will be
Security and privacy are two important aspects in today's Internet age. Cyber attacks become more dangerous with time. In that case Passkey can be used instead of password.
Passkey is a passwordless login
Passkey is a new type of passwordless login. Which has been adopted by tech companies including Google and Apple. It is designed to be more secure and easier to use than passwords. An app decoder named Steve Moser said that a Passkey option could be coming to LinkedIn and Elon Musk-owned X.
How is Passkey different from Password?
- Passkey is based on a cryptographic key pair.
- The public key is stored in your logged in app and the private key is stored on your device.
- When you sign in, your device generates a Passkey, which is encrypted with the public key.
- The application decrypts the Passkey with its private key to verify your identity.
Passkey is more secure than password
- Passkey is more secure than password, as it is not stored in plain text on any server. This means that even if a website or app gets hacked, your Passkey cannot be stolen.
- Additionally, Passkey is more resistant to phishing attacks, as it cannot be guessed.
- Passkey is easier to use than password. You don't need to remember long, complicated passwords.
- Alternatively, sign in with your device's biometric verification method, such as Face ID or Touch ID.
- Both Google and Apple are adopting Passkey. Google has already rolled out support for Passkey in Chrome and Android. Apple supports Passkeys in iOS 16, iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura.
