Twitter's brand value became X (past)!
- Elon Musk, known for taking unexpected and sometimes reckless decisions, has finally ended Twitter's fun identity.
Few company names are so closely woven into people's daily lives. If we search something on the net, we say 'Googled'. Actually there is no such word as 'Googling'. Um, if we post something on Twitter, it is called 'Tweeted!' (No one says 'Facebooked'!). It can't be said anymore, Twitter's new owner, Elon Musk, has made the very name that has been buzzing around the world and in our minds for years 'ex (ex-past)'!
Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter for $44 billion last year was a huge gamble. At that time, the brand value of the company was tremendous, but the financial situation was in shambles. Musk took various, controversial steps to increase revenue, and the company's fortunes worsened. Elok Musk sacked several employees including the Indian-origin CEO of the company and finally said goodbye to the company's identity, Sama Pankhi. After 15-17 years of hard work, the worldwide brand value of Twitter was created. A decision by Elon Musk is believed to have reduced it by twenty billion dollars.
The reason for doing so?
When Elon Musk bought the Twitter company, he said he wanted to create an 'app for everything' - an app for everything. For the same purpose, he bought a company with a good user base like Twitter and now he has changed the identity of the company in the direction of making it a 'superapp'.
The new CEO of the company has also written in his tweet, sorry, 'X' that now the company will move towards becoming a 'superapp' providing all services such as audio, video, messaging, payments, banking etc. China's 'WeChat' has successfully turned from a mere messaging app into a 'superapp'. It currently has about one and a half billion active users and about 35 lakh small and big services are available in one app!
Elon Musk can do such a miracle? Right now the world is in the shock of killing his favorite fun bird! However, it has to be said that Elon Musk is not the only one who plays such a gamble. Many companies in the tech world have undergone exciting name changes...
