Currently there is a 24 hour day on Earth, but it is predicted that a day may be 60 hours in the coming years. Know what is the reason? Recently, scientists revealed that the moon is moving away from the earth.

As the moon receded, Earth's day was gradually getting longer every year. A team of astronomers has revealed that the length of Earth's day has been constant for about a billion years.

This happened between two billion years ago and 600 million years ago when the gravitational pull from the Moon was overwhelmed by another influence from the Sun. Researchers claim that if this astronomical event had not occurred at that time, the earth's day, which is currently 24 hours long, would have been 60 hours long.

A day on earth was 10 hours long when the moon was formed but the moon moved away and now it has stopped at 24 hours. Even so, the moon is still dilating at a rate of about 1.7 milliseconds per 100 years.
