As many of us have traveled by air, everyone must have seen an airplane. But have you ever wondered where the fuel tanks are located in this plane and what kind of fuel it uses. Apart from this how much fuel is filled in it. Let us inform you about this today.
The fuel that is put in the aircraft is not petrol or diesel
Generally all vehicles have petrol, diesel or CNG in some vehicles which run on gas. Similarly, airplanes also require liquid fuel. And the only difference is that the fuel capacity of larger aircraft carrying passengers is much higher. In simple language, the amount of oil used in the tanks of Airbus or Jumbo Boeing can fill the tanks of 6 to 8 thousand cars. And the fuel that is put in the aircraft is not petrol or diesel. It is a colorless and easily flammable kerosene based fuel.
Where is the fuel tank located in the aircraft?
You may be surprised to know that the fuel tanks for an airplane are located in its wings and others in its back. And the tanks are arranged in its wings and can hold hundreds of liters of fuel. You may wonder why airplane fuel tanks are built this way. Can the wings of an airplane store this much capacity of oil? So the answer is yes, these long wings of the aircraft have the capacity to fill thousands of liters of oil.
Why is it done this way?
Both sides of the aircraft are long and hold not one but many tanks. Apart from this, a tank is seen at its back. In earlier aircraft, the fuel tank was located under the aircraft, but due to new technology and its increased weight, it has been replaced in such a way that the aircraft can be filled with large amounts of fuel. And it is arranged so that it is not affected by gravity. And here refueling does not affect the weight of the aircraft and neither does gravity. The load of the aircraft is distributed on both sides.
How much fuel capacity does an airplane have?
You will be surprised to hear the fueling capacity of an airplane, one Boeing or Airbus can be filled with enough oil to fill the tanks of thousands of bikes or hundreds of cars. This means, the fuel tank of an Airbus A380 can hold 323,591 liters of oil. Small aircraft have a fuel tank capacity of 4000 - 5000 liters while medium aircraft have a capacity of 26000 to 30000 liters.
