An effort to combat the ever-increasing SMS fraud

You don't check your sms much anymore , but sometimes you drop in a few at your leisure. It will show a plethora of messages like: " Your electricity bill is not paid , connection will be disconnected , call this number ", " You have got an iPhone prize ", " Your account has Rs. 98,000 has been deposited '','' ' Your Paytm KYC is pending '', '' Your online account or bank account details , PAN , Aadhaar etc. need to be updated , click here... ''

You think that ' this is the old way of cheating , now who will be involved in it ?' So you are wrong! People who try to cheat by sending completely fake messages like this can send messages to millions of people at a very small cost and many people are trapped in it every day. Call the phone number given in the message or click on the link, then you will understand that you are trapped!

People still do not have enough awareness against this type of fraud, so they click on the link given in the message or call the phone number mentioned for ' support ' . This is what SMS scammers want. After that they can cheat us by getting our important information.

Various banks , power companies , mobile wallets, etc. all make continuous efforts to warn people against such frauds, but people remain oblivious.

To counter this situation, a new initiative is being taken in the ' Trucaller ' app. As you must know, Truecaller app is like a huge phone directory of the entire world. Due to this, even if the number from which the call is coming to us is not saved in our phone, we can see whose name the phone number belongs to.

Almost the same facility is now employed by Truecaller to protect people from SMS fraud. According to Truecaller, about 100 million people using the app have received at least one malicious SMS in the past three months. Truecaller has employed Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat such fraud. Numbers reported by people as sending dangerous messages are taken into account , and artificial intelligence and machine learning are employed.

Hence, when we receive such a dangerous SMS, the notification received from Truecaller includes a red warning label on the SMS. So we don't take any action on that message. Even if we miss the red label and open the SMS, Truecaller's AI tool disables all the links in the message. So that we don't get trapped by clicking on it. If we feel that the message is definitely safe then we can mark that message as safe and also enable the links in it.

Phone must have Truecaller app to avail this facility!
