Is someone going to pick you up at the bus stand? Not simple, share location with ETA


You must know how to share location in Maps app. That way , if one person shares their live location with another person, the other person can see where the first person is at that moment , on their map.

But if these two people have shared a location to meet each other, they can also share the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) i.e. how long it will take them to reach a certain place!

To keep things simple , let us take the example of Rameshbhai and his wife Ameebehn living in Ahmedabad.

Assume that Ameebhen himself has gone to Pier Vadodara. From there they are coming back to Ahmedabad by bus. Rameshbhai has to go to Geetha Mandir bus stand to pick them up. If Amibehan shares his live location with Rameshbhai from his Google Maps app or WhatsApp, Rameshbhai can constantly see on the map in his phone how far Amibehan's bus has reached.

But in this way only the location of the Amibehan bus can be known , it cannot be known how long it will take them to reach the bus stand in Ahmedabad.

There is a way too.

Ameebehan opened her Maps app to search for Geetamandir bus stand. Now he has to press the ' Start ' button that appears on the screen .

Hence , navigation to the location where their bus is at that moment and from there to Geetamandir bus stand will start. The bus will continue to move as a blue arrow on the map. Along with ETA - the approximate time after which the bus will reach Geeta Mandir will also be seen (this calculation will also take into account how much traffic there is on the road).

Now AmiBahn will enlarge the card showing the ETA-time by dragging it downwards. Hence there will be an option of ' Share Ride Progress ' . Clicking it will open the sharing menu and AmiBhan will share his location and navigation with Rameshbhai via WhatsApp or any other means.

This link sent to Ameebhai will appear in Rameshbhai's WhatsApp , Rameshbhai will click on it so in his maps app he will be able to see Ameebhai's bus moving ahead and also know the time when the bus will reach Geeta Mandir!

Understand the difference between simple live location sharing and ride progress sharing with ETA ? Sometimes it will work!
