What was the attack on America? What is the role of Telegram in it?
Last week, Russian hackers attacked websites related to a number of airports in the United States, temporarily disrupting the operations of these sites. The role of instant messaging app Telegram has also been revealed in this attack.
This cyber attack was an attack known as ' Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) ' in the world of hacking. As the name suggests , in this type of attack, a hacker targets a website and disrupts its service , so that average users cannot access the website. We often read the news that various government websites or websites of big corporations are hacked and the pirate flags of hackers or messages in support of terrorist organizations are displayed on it , this DDOS attack is different. When an entire site is hacked, hackers ' somehow ' break into the site's backend system as an administrator and then wipe everything out there , hoisting the victory flag on the homepage.
A DDOS attack is not that serious. To take the example of what happened recently in the US , a hacker group known as ' Kilnet ' and believed to be pro-Russian is believed to be focusing on DDoS. The group runs a channel on Telegram and keeps in touch with other hackers , keeping themselves anonymous . Earlier last week , the group posted a list of 49 US airports and air travel websites on its Telegram channel and asked hackers who knew simple hacking tricks to launch a DDoS attack (i.e. distributed attack) on these sites.
All of the associated hackers then, in different ways , generated so much fake visitor traffic to their target sites that the sites could not handle it , resulting in disrupted operations. All of this didn't cause any major glitches in the backend of those sites , but the frontend messed up what the average user would see!
Users can remain completely anonymous on Telegram and can be in direct contact with two lakh people , making it a haven for terrorist organizations and hackers. Telegram's founder is Russian himself , but has also frequently clashed (or is made to appear so) with the Russian government. Despite the clear evidence of Telegram's role in terrorist attacks and cyberattacks , it is surprising that the app is still running unhindered!
