Only humans are subject to error! We keep making mistakes all our life , if we learn from them, we may not make those mistakes again , but we keep making new mistakes. The trouble with life is that there are no easy shortcuts to undo mistakes. A lesson can be learned from a mistake , but the opportunity to correct it is only available if there is luck.
Fortunately, it is not like that without internet , smartphone , computer. Here even an arrow loose from the bow can be deflected - before it hits someone else or ourselves.
The condition is that we should know its various ways. We know that undo can be done with Control+Z key in computer , but such facility can be found in smartphone keyboard too , of course , in a slightly different way.
The things written here are not about deleting or editing something after writing something on social media. That facility is mostly available to us and we are aware of it. Here it is about undoing typing mistakes , actions taken by mistake in various programs or mails sent by mistake.

As you may know , Control+Z shortcut is useful for fixing errors in almost all Windows programs. Undo can also be done by Alt+Backspace in some programs. Microsoft Office programs and some other programs allow multiple undo steps. Some programs, including Microsoft Office, also have an undo facility. After we undo, if we realize that there was no need to undo , we can redo the undo by pressing Control+Y or F4 key. Most programs have an Undo command in the Edit tab of the top menu , which can also be used. Programs like Microsoft Word have separate buttons for both Undo and Redo in the Quick Access Toolbar at the top.

There are a number of features in Apple's iPhone that are left out of our sight. One such feature is ' Shake to Undo '. If you make a mistake while typing in the iPhone and want to erase it, you can do this by just shaking the iPhone! If we have enabled this feature, do we get an alert when we shake the phone or want to erase the next action ? Go to ' Accessibility ' in Settings to avail this feature . Here click on Touch in ' Physical and Motor Category ' . There will be an option of ' shake to undo ' at the bottom. From here it can be turned on/off. If this feature seems inconvenient, you can also undo the action by swiping three fingers from right to left on the screen! There is one more way - double-tap the screen with three fingers - the error will be undone!

If you've added a Gboard keyboard to your smartphone , it has all the features of undo , redo, etc. - it takes a little practice to master. First, in Gboard's settings , turn on ' Enable Gesture Delete ' in ' Glide Typing ' . Now, if there is any mistake in the typed text, press the backspace key (right side of ' M ' ) in Gboard and immediately move your finger to the left , the words in the text will be selected (if you delay in moving the finger, the words will be deleted directly instead of being selected! ). With a finger lift , the selected words will be deleted. If more than necessary words are selected, move it to the right without lifting your finger , the words will be de-selected. Now lift your finger and the selected words will be deleted (told you , takes some practice!). If something goes wrong, you can copy and paste the text instead of long press in Text and you will also get undo and redo options!

Keyboard apps like Gboard and Swiftboard are very popular among Android users , but Samsung's keyboard is also particularly feature-rich. Samsung's keyboard has an undo feature. To avail it, search for Samsung keyboard in phone settings and go to ' Swipe , touch and feedback ' options. Here select ' Cursor Control ' in ' Keyboard Swipe Controls ' . Now type anything using Samsung keyboard and swipe from right to left with two fingers on the keyboard to correct mistakes. The matter you typed will be undone. Swipe left to right to redo this undo!

Perhaps the most used undo feature in Microsoft Office programs. Control + Z key is always clicked to undo any mistake, but it is worth remembering that by default we can undo maximum 100 changes in Microsoft Word , Excel , PowerPoint files. It is also worth remembering that actions such as saving a file cannot be undone. As a general rule , clicking any of the commands in the File tab cannot be undone. Similarly, if we run a macro in Excel, then nothing can be undone with the Control + Z key. If you want to modify the computer's registry, you can increase or decrease the undo limit. However, for average users there is no need for such a major change.

This is a slightly different type of undo , but worth knowing. In Android devices we can set a selection to use a particular app to open different links or files. For example, if we click on a PDF file link and if we have three or four apps in our phone that can open PDF files, we can set the PDF to always open in one of those apps. Generally, when we do not select a default app for any action and when we open a PDF file, the system suggests different apps and asks whether to always use a particular app or to open the file in this app only this time ? At this point we can set the default app. Suppose you set an app as the default for opening PDFs or select the Google Chrome browser app as the default app for opening links to webpages. Now you want to undo this selection! To do that, go to the phone's settings , go to apps , go to app info here or directly search for ' default app ' . From here you can see which default app is set for which action and change your preference from here.

This is also a different type of undo - in Instagram, if you delete anything like photos , videos , reels or stories, and then think that it was worth keeping , then the action of deletion can be undone. Anything we delete in Instagram is instantly removed from our account , but from there it shifts to the ' Recently Deleted ' section. Here it is stored for 30 days (24 hours in case of stories not in the Stories Archive) and then deleted forever. Go to your profile in Insta to undo the delete action within this period. In it, click on the top menu , go to ' Your Activity ' . Go to the ' Recently Deleted ' section here . Anything deleted in the near future will appear here and can be restored.
Gmail , Google Photos , Google Drive etc. also have a recycle bin like this , in which the things we delete are saved for a fixed period of time and then deleted permanently. Before that it can be restored.

If you have multiple tabs open in a browser like Chrome and when you go to minimize them , the work tab gets closed by mistake... this must have happened to you. The easiest solution is to right-click on an empty space in the tab bar , select ' Reopen Closed Tab ' from the menu that opens , or press Control+Shift+Tab!

Like most of the people, you have a Gmail account and like most of the people, once in a while you hit the send button to send an email and regret that there was a mistake , the mail was yet to be edited!
Two simple solutions can be tried to avoid such a situation. One , when we are sending a new email to someone, instead of writing their address in the To field and then composing the email, it is a habit to first write a draft of the email and finally write the email address in the To field. The advantage of doing this will be that we will be able to draft the email very quietly and even if the send button is pressed by mistake , hastily, since there is no address written in the To field, the system will draw our attention and ask who to send the email to. Thus there will be no risk of email being sent by mistake.
But this benefit is available only when sending a new email , while replying to someone's email, the address comes automatically in the To field, so there is a risk of sending an email by mistake. Email provides a great solution to that. Go to Gmail's settings to take advantage of it. Go to All Settings in it. Find the ' Undo Send ' option in the General tab . Here you can set to cancel the send within 5 to 30 seconds.
Instead of sending the mail directly, setting a later date or time is a different matter , there is also a chance of correcting the error.

Like Gmail, if you use Outlook for office use, you can also get the facility to undo an email send. There are two versions of the Outlook.com service called Outlook Web App. Modern version and classic version. Both have almost the same method of sending and undoing emails.
To avail it in the modern version, go to All Settings by clicking on the Settings icon. Go to the compose and reply section in the email. In this version, Outlook offers an option to undo a send within a maximum period of 10 seconds. Here you can choose a duration of up to 10 seconds by moving the slider. If you are still using the classic version of Outlook, click Settings, click Mail, and then click Undo Settings. Here we get an opportunity to undo email send within 30 seconds.

If you are using the Microsoft Outlook program on a computer, the procedure is a bit more complicated , but has more flexibility. Generally, after composing an email in Microsoft Outlook, if we click the send button, the message is sent immediately if the internet connectivity is on. Instead, we can avoid sending an email by mistake by setting a rule that the delivery of the message is always slightly delayed.
For that, after composing an email in Microsoft Outlook, instead of clicking on Send, go to Options and click on ' Delay Delivery ' . Now we will be able to decide on which date and time this mail should be sent (this is also how mail can be scheduled in Gmail).
If you want the message to always be sent after a while, then you have to set a rule to delay email delivery in the Microsoft Outlook program. For that go to the program options in the main outlook window. Go to the Rules and Alerts section in it. The Rules Wizard will open. Here it can be decided that the message will be delivered after a few seconds after going to the Start From A Black rule. In this way we can choose a maximum gap of 120 seconds.
