Not providing charger with i-Phone turns out to be costly: Apple hit with Rs. 164 crore fine

Ahmedabad, 14 October 2022, Friday

In today's new age, it has become a trend not to provide a charger with the smartphone. It was started by Apple and now companies like Google, Samsung to even Xiaomi are not providing chargers with their phones. However, various countries are now adopting strictness in this regard. Apple's decision not to provide a charger with the iPhone has become expensive again. Apple has been fined 20 million dollars i.e. about 164 crore rupees for selling an iPhone without a charger in Brazil.

A Brazilian court judge said Apple forced consumers to buy additional products by not providing a charger with the iPhone. Earlier last month, Apple was separately fined about $2.5 million by Brazil's Justice Department for a similar issue. Apple has stopped providing chargers with iPhone 12 since October 2020. Apple has been slapped with similar fines in France before.

Earlier, before the launch of Apple's iPhone 14 series, Brazil gave a big blow to Apple. Last month, the Brazilian government ordered a nationwide ban on the sale of iPhones without chargers. Apart from this, the Brazilian government also imposed a fine of around 18 crore rupees on Apple for not providing a charger with the iPhone.

Apart from this, last week the European Union said that by the end of 2024 it may be forced to provide a single type of C port charger with all devices. Apple will suffer the most from this decision as it will have to change the design of all its products.
