Photoshop is free - Terms apply!


You must know that the word we use every day for photocopying - Xerox - is actually a brand name! But the brand became so powerful that it replaced the product category - photocopying! We have seen the same thing happen in categories like toothpaste or stove.

Another example is the Photoshop program . If an original photograph has been altered, we say ' Photo Photoshop '! Photoshop is actually a software for photo editing , but the brand has become so popular that it has taken the place of the product category.

You may have somehow come in contact with this software or the results (fake photos on WhatsApp!).

Adobe, the company that makes this software, wants to make Photoshop even more popular. So Photoshop is a paid program but the company is now considering offering it completely free.

Of course with some conditions.

The first condition is that Photoshop can be used for free only on the web , online. The company launched a web version of Photoshop last year called ' Adobe Express ' ( formerly known as ' Adobe Spark ' ) but it is very limited compared to the original software, with only a few basic features for editing photographs.

If you have worked in Photoshop you know that the feature that makes this program really powerful is Layers. With the help of this, it is possible to make wonderful changes by adding different layers to the photograph like transparent glass arranged on a Mac. These layers and other editing tools were also added to the web version going forward. Yet the web version lags far behind the original software that can be used offline.

The company initially developed a web version of the Photoshop software as a ' collaboration tool ' . Accordingly, a team of different artists uploaded a photo in the web version and edited it on their own , from different parts of the world. But all this was at a primary level.

Now the company is working on its web version anew. The company is expected to offer some new features for free in the web version. Of course some parts will still be paid. The company will try to get people to know more about its powerful features in the free web version of Photoshop and then move on to subscribing to its original form!

Various design tools are now being turned into versions that can work with the entire team , across the web , rather than software running offline , on a PC . Adobe is an echo in offline software for designing-editing-publishing, etc. , but it is now facing stiff competition from online software.
