Now comes the chipped passport
When the banknote ban was suddenly imposed in 2014 , there was a rumor that a chip that could be used to track notes was inserted in the new currency note of 2000 , now it is coming true in the case of passports! The use of e-passport has started in more than 100 countries of the world. E-passports are even used in India's neighboring countries like Pakistan , Nepal and Bangladesh. Now we too will be included in this list.
The announcement was made by the Indian Foreign Minister last week on the occasion of Passport Service Day . An e-document usually means that the document is only in electronic form , but not in the case of an e-passport. This passport will be the same as any other passport. The only difference is that a chip will be placed inside the passport. In the same way that all the information in our driving license is contained in a plastic card with a chip , all the important information of the passport holder such as name , date of birth , address and other details will be stored in the chip in the passport.
With the help of this Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based chip, the officers will be able to verify the details of the passport holder more quickly. Chip e-passports are also likely to reduce the contamination of fake passports. This new type of passport is likely to be issued by the end of this year. It is not yet clear whether people with existing plain passports will have to upgrade their passports.
