Finally, get rid of dangerous calls ?!

Which is the most popular app in India ? It is natural that the names of the most popular social media apps , e-commerce sites or games are in this list , but the name of a different type of app in this list also attracts our attention - Truecaller!

When the Indian government banned a number of Chinese apps that regularly invaded our country in 2021 , many thought that this Truecaller app would also be banned , as people believed that this app, which is often embroiled in various controversies, would also be Chinese. In fact , Truecaller is a Swedish app and like many other apps , it is hugely popular in India more than other countries. Most likely your phone will have this app and if not , it will have your name in its database!

Not all of us take our privacy very seriously , but with the introduction of payment services from UPI in various apps in India , the Government of India has started worrying about our data.

As a result, the government has cracked down on one app after another. The government is waking up late about Truecaller apps different from social media and e-commerce apps , but now the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is telling us exactly who the caller is, just like Truecaller , but more reliably. Such a system is likely to develop.

Let's talk a little bit about what will happen with it and why we need a good alternative to apps like Truecolor.

You may recall that a few years ago, a central government minister himself, speaking in Parliament, said that anonymous calls, rather than offering loans or credit cards, bothered him too! Calls from unknown numbers are like double-edged swords. If we do not receive it, we may lose an important call from an important person. On the other hand , if we have a fear in our mind , a call from an unknown number or an unsolicited call offering a credit card or any other kind of offer, our precious time will be wasted rather than received.

The situation has improved a bit over the last few years due to two things. One is Truecaller service , which allows us to know the name of the number from which the call came to us, even if the number is not saved in our contact list. Like Truecaller services, if a call comes from a number listed in Google's MyBusiness service, we now know the name of the business. So we can decide whether to receive the call or not.

We are also aware of the numbers that various users have reported for junk calling. So we can avoid taking incoming calls from such numbers.

Now the news is that the whole situation will get better.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is likely to play a similar role. TRAI is developing a new framework that will allow us to see the name of the incoming call on our screen , even if the number is not saved in our contact list.

There will be a significant difference between TRAI's service and Truecaller's service. The numbers we find in Truecaller service are ' crowdsourced ' , meaning that when different people open their address book for Truecaller service, Truecaller gets information about the name they have saved in their address book. This information may be unsupported. If TRAI's framework really takes shape, it will contain only basic information as its details will be visible to other users based on the KYC documents of the caller. Of course we don't have to be very happy. Discussions will start in the coming months to prepare such a framework and then the whole thing will take shape.

But in order to control the activity of deceiving people by identifying them as employees of a bank or other well-known company through text messages and calls, which are now almost baroque , a caller identification service is essential.

Everything on the Internet is like a double-edged sword , another example is Truecaller Service. This app service and its app is very popular in India - so much so that more than half of the users of this app all over the world are in India alone!

You may know about Truecaller , but if you don't have a detailed introduction, just know that we can consider this app as a ' crowdsourced ' telephone directory for the whole world. ' Crowdsourced ' is a directory in which a large number of people keep contributing and this directory is becoming more and more huge. The service claims that " it has created a vast database of contact information from people around the world from telephone directories , social networks and the Truecaller community.

The names , phone numbers and other details of 3 billion people out of a total of about 3 billion people in the world have entered the book of Truecaller!

How useful ?

According to many people , this app is very useful to them because when they get a call from strangers because of it, they can know the name of that person even if it is not in their address book! Also , if you receive unwanted spam calls from various marketing companies, you can report them as spam. Many different people report such numbers as spam. In the end , the app notifies us when we get a call from the same number. So many people have reported this number as spam. We can answer the call and save our time!

How controversial is that ?

The biggest controversy against TrueCollar is its way of getting people's details. Initially , there were allegations that installing this company's app means that it uploads our entire address book to its own server. At present the company clarifies that this is not done.

The company's privacy policy states that no addressbook details are obtained if its app is installed from Apple or Google. But , if a user selects the ' Enhanced Search ' option and searches in the other way obtained app and its website, the company gets all the details of our address book! The side screenshot is of his website , in which if you want to search for a phone number, you have to sign-in with Google or Microsoft account. Then if you want to improve the search quality then you have to select the ' Enhanced Search ' option. If this option is on, the company will take care of all the details of all our contacts! For our ' convenience ' the company is already ready for this option , if we do not have to remove it! Which means it's about to be the most delusional time of the year, as well as the most delusional.

Thus , even if we do not give our own contacts to Truecaller , other people who have our details in their address book can give their contacts to Truecaller and thus our details go up in his book!

It is also believed that on the one hand TrueCollar app helps us to identify unwanted spam calls , but on the other hand by searching its database , getting our details can spam us!

For this reason , government KYC-based caller identification is more important than Truecaller's crowdsourced data.
