If your phone has this older Android version, you need to upgrade it

New delhi date. 11 November 2020, Wednesday

Most of the smartphones have Android operating system and the number of Android users is increasing rapidly. While many users are buying new devices and keeping them updated, many users are still using old smartphones and have not updated them. If you are also using a device that has an older Android operating system, you should upgrade your phone's OS. If not here's a new product just for you!

Media reports say that smartphones running Android version 7.1 or older need to upgrade to the latest software version. Thus it will be necessary to access the Internet as before. This has become necessary due to the expiration of the partnership between Certificate Authority Let's Encrypt and Certificate Authority Iden Trust. Out of the total number of Android devices worldwide, 66.2% are working on Android 7.1 or earlier.

Less than a year

As per the information, 33.8 per cent of the existing devices have already started showing certificate errors. This is happening while accessing any website with a Let's Encrypt certificate. Let's Encrypt is involved in some of the largest certificate authorities and 30 percent of web domains have been granted company share certifications. The partnership with the Certificate Authority is set to expire on September 1, 2021, with an extension of less than one year.

Will have to buy a new phone

Reports have surfaced that Let's Encrypt and Iden Trust have no plans to renew their partnership. It becomes necessary for users to upgrade to the latest software version. Simply put, after the partnership expires, users using smartphones on older Android versions will not be able to access many websites from the phone's web browser. If your device does not have the option to upgrade to the new OS, you will need to purchase a new phone.
