Albedo Effect: Himalayan ice is melting with dust particles

New delhi date. 07 October 2020, Wednesday

Researchers have expressed concern over the rapidly melting ice in the Himalayas. He blamed rising pollution and dust particles in Asia and Africa for melting the ice. Researchers have urged effective action in this direction. According to the discovery, the Aldibo effect is having a detrimental effect on the environment in the Himalayas. Dust flying for miles is leaving a widespread impact on the ice cycle in the Himalayan region. While the rapidly melting Himalayan ice is a matter of concern.

Glaciers are melting and merging into rivers which is one of the processes of melting ice. According to the discovery, about 700 million people in Southeast Asia depend on the Himalayan ice for fresh water. At that time, the major rivers of India and China, the Ganges, the Brahmaputra, the Yangtze and the Hong, were very important in terms of fauna and human life, agriculture and ecology. It is worth mentioning that all these rivers also originate from the Himalayas. Researchers have said that this type of study is necessary to perform the analysis naturally because the ice in the area is melting so fast that it could be a sign of any major danger.

A previous study by NASA measured the level of dust, pollution and aerosols that had accumulated on the ice surface. The melting of Himalayan ice as a result of these dust particles is called the Albido effect. The albido effect increases the amount of carbon on the ice layer that absorbs light. This is the reason why people prefer to take a white car instead of a black one as this cuts off the heat.

In the same way, the sunshine falling on the pure and shining white snow of the Himalayas spreads far and wide in the sky, but due to the pollution and dust accumulating on the ice, the radiance of the sun falling on the ice is fading. This is because pollution, dust and aerosols absorb the rays emitted from sunlight. According to the findings, the amount of dust on the Himalayas is increasing day by day due to urbanization. Deforestation, agriculture and massive industrialization are major sources of dust and pollution.
