Finally, Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp, seems to have found ways to monetize WhatsApp. As we have just discussed, last week the channels feature in WhatsApp was launched in more than 150 countries including India. Along with this, celebrities and other users have got the facility to create a channel.

Right now everything is free. But from now on, how the WhatsApp company itself and the content creators can earn from this feature are starting to appear. While this is being written, after going to the updates section in WhatsApp, we can search for different channels , but the search results only show the channels of verified WhatsApp accounts, i.e. accounts with a green tick. This means that the user who does not have such a green tick has to work hard to make his channel popular!

Currently, verification with green tick in WhatsApp is a ' closed program ' , meaning only certain celebrity accounts can benefit from it. Others cannot apply for green tick or get their account verified even after paying Rs.

It is very likely that like Facebook and Instagram, soon WhatsApp will also be able to verify the account only after paying a fixed amount every month! On the other hand, if the content creators want to promote their channel in the channel directory of WhatsApp, there is a possibility that they will have to pay Rs.

Apart from channels, Meta Company has also announced another big change in WhatsApp.

WhatsApp currently has a UPI based payment system , which all types of users can take advantage of. Now new options for payment are being added to WhatsApp's business app.

Currently, small and big businesses can create a catalog of their products in WhatsApp's business app and get paid for it through UPI. If business is using payment gateway other than UPI can provide link. As a user, if we click on such a link, we can go to the website of that payment gateway outside of WhatsApp and proceed for payment.

Now the WhatsApp company has tied up with two of India's leading payment gateways, ReservePay and Payu. So now after interacting with WhatsApp business app, if we select a product and buy it in WhatsApp itself, the payment can be done directly from WhatsApp itself and for that we can choose the option of using UPI, Razerpay or Payu (to take advantage of Razerpay or Payu payment gateway, our No need to have an account).

In short, now we can add the product seen through WhatsApp Business app to the cart in WhatsApp itself and pay for it easily using UPI or payment gateway options like credit/debit card or netbanking while exchanging messages!

Currently there are about 500 million WhatsApp users in India, 100 million users have got the facility to use the UPI-based WhatsApp Pay feature , but there is no limit on using non-UPI payment gateways in WhatsApp's business app. Currently, a WhatsApp-based store has been launched for Reliance Company's Jio Mart , in which everything from product selection to payment can be done on WhatsApp. Now with the addition of other payment gateways to WhatsApp Business, the number of businesses offering online shopping on WhatsApp will increase.
