More than 36 lakh WhatsApp accounts banned at the behest of the Indian government
The news of receiving fake calls through WhatsApp in India is increasing day by day. People are getting voice and video calls from random international numbers and scammers are targeting people. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said during the launch of the Telecom Department's Sanchar Sathi website that more than 36 lakh WhatsApp accounts have been banned in India and WhatsApp is also helping to protect people.
Government efforts to stop WhatsApp call scam
Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was asked about the government's efforts to curb the growing issue of WhatsApp call scams in the country. In response to a question, he said, "We are actively engaged with WhatsApp and WhatsApp has also agreed with customer protection. All OTT platforms are ready to deregister users who are found to be fraudulent users.
Block and report suspicious messages and calls
Earlier, WhatsApp asked users to block and report suspicious calls so that appropriate action can be taken against them. Blocking and reporting suspicious messages and calls is an important step to prevent them, WhatsApp explained.
Information about receiving calls and messages from different countries
Some WhatsApp users reported receiving calls from various countries like Ethiopia (+251), Malaysia (+60), Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), Vietnam (+84) and others. Some users also reported getting fake part time job messages.
