The train runs between hills and dense forests in the beautiful valleys of Ooty in Tamil Nadu. This train is very popular with tourists. The famous song 'Chaiya Chaiya' from Shah Rukh Khan's film 'Dilse' was shot on this train.

This is a toy train. Named Mettupalayam Unti Nilgiri Passenger Train. This train is the slowest train in India that passes through the rolling hills and thick forests. The speed of this train is less than 10 Km/h. Tourists traveling through this train get ample opportunity to enjoy the natural scenery. The engine of this train runs on steam.

Passengers can alight and re-board the running train

The train covers a distance of 46 km through the hills and forests. The train takes more than 5 hours to complete this journey. The speed of the train is so low that passengers get down and re-board the running train. The train also halts at many stations during this journey.

The construction took place during the British period

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway was started during the time of the British. At that time the British used to enjoy this train and the beautiful scenery around it. Even in today's modern era, this train is operated by the same steam engine which makes the scenery more captivating.
