The heat is increasing day by day. Most of the people turn on the AC as soon as they go home to get relief from the heat. Due to AC, the electricity bill is higher at the end of the month. But while turning on the AC, we make mistakes that lead to higher electricity bills. Here some solutions are shown to reduce the light bill and also save electricity.

Keeping the AC temperature low to save electricity

Most people have a habit of lowering the temperature as much as possible while turning on the AC. However running the AC at minimum temperature increases the light bill. Instead it should be kept between 24 to 26°C to reduce power consumption. Keeping the AC at a slightly higher temperature can save up to 24% on electricity bills.

Do not allow cold air to escape

After switching on the AC, the door of the house should be kept closed. But a few more things can be done to optimize cooling and reduce power consumption. Windows should be properly closed and also care should be taken to prevent sunlight from entering the room. Curtains should be kept if possible, this will cool the room faster.

Switching off the AC every now and then

Once the room is properly cooled, the AC should be switched off. Once the room is cold, it will stay cold for at least an hour. So keeping the AC off during this time will reduce the light bill.

Regular AC servicing reduces the light bill

Clogging of the AC filter puts more load on the motor to supply cool air, which also increases power consumption. Replacing a dirty filter with a new one can reduce the light bill by 10 to 15 percent.
