Most people are victims of cyberfraud in the country's IT hub!


When it comes to cyber fraud, the first name that comes to mind is Nigeria or Jamtada! Nigeria is known as the cybercrime capital of the world. Similarly Jamtada village of Jharkhand is notorious for various types of money fraud. But Hyderabad, one of the country's IT hubs, is the number one victim of such crimes!

According to the National Crime Records Bureau statistics, 10 percent of the cyber fraud cases reported in the entire country in 2020 were reported only in Telangana. Despite the large presence of several foreign IT companies in Hyderabad, cyber safety awareness seems to be low among the common citizens there. People here easily fall into customer care fraud , job fraud , loan fraud or bank related fraud. According to police statistics, most of the cases are related to UPI. In which fraudsters send QR codes to their victims , the victim believes they are receiving money but actually sends the money.

According to Hyderabad Police statistics, one out of every five FIRs registered in the city is related to cyber crime. Out of them UPI scams account for almost 45 percent. Even though the cyber safety awareness of people of Telangana is low we should remember that we never need to give our PIN while receiving money from UPI payment system. We have to give PIN only when we are paying money to others. Just remembering this can go a long way in avoiding cyberfraud.
