After 59 years in the solar system, Jupiter will be closest to Earth on September 26

Washington, September 22, 2022, Thursday

An event is taking shape after the longest 59 years in the solar system. Jupiter, one of the largest of the solar family, is making its closest approach to Earth. This is happening for the first time after 59 years. According to the information of the American space agency NASA, Jupiter will be seen in the opposite direction from the Sun. Scientists call this phenomenon of Jupiter changing its direction as opposition.

In this way, opposition for Jupiter i.e. Jupiter is not considered a new thing. Jupiter comes into opposition once every 13 months. Hence Earth and Jupiter come close to each other about once every year. However, this time the distance between these two planets will be very less. When Jupiter is farthest from Earth, it is 960 million km away, while when it is closest, it will be about 590 km away.

The planets of the solar system do not revolve around the Sun in a circle but in a flat path. Earth takes 365 days to orbit the Sun, while Jupiter takes 4333 days to orbit the Sun. That means Jupiter completes one revolution of Sun in approximately 12 years. On 25th and 26th September, the close view of the Earth can be seen between the Sun and Jupiter.

This giant planet appears brighter as it gets closer to Earth. Being made of a gas sphere, it will appear larger than normal. Jupiter will be clearly retrograde to the Sun on September 26. This phenomenon is very important for astronomy enthusiasts. Jupiter can be seen better with the help of binoculars with a good range.
