The world of social media is constantly changing. Especially in the last few years, Tiktok app has spread all over the world to such an extent that Facebook , Instagram or YouTube are directly affected , but Google search is also getting affected by Tiktok.

TikTok has been banned in India , but elsewhere in the world the fear of TikTok is spreading to such an extent that the company Meta in particular has started making seemingly random changes to its apps and services to combat its competition.

This has had a noticeable effect on Facebook's feed, and we're seeing more and more content from people we don't know (meaning real friends' content is decreasing). The Meta company has just announced that it is adding a ' Community Chat ' feature to Facebook-Messenger. At first glance, this would be a feature similar to ' Discord ' . We feel a little surprised that we chat with others in FB or Messenger , then what will be the difference ? The difference will be that it will be able to chat ' live ' with people of a particular community , with the help of text , audio and video , and there will be a specific topic around which people will gather.

Let's say you're interested in veggie recipes or physics simulations , by joining a community on that topic, you can lean into what other people are discussing about the same topic at that moment. Text in it is like a simple chat , but with audio-video , instant and live. It's not like we post something and other people comment after some time or days , everything is instant! There were such chatrooms in the early days of the internet , now they are being revived in a new form. Chatting with complete strangers in earlier chatrooms was risky because of that - it still is!

People involved in the channel can chat by voice , video and text.

Students form groups at school , play the same game at home , on their respective mobiles , and then create their own group voice channel on Discord, where they can chat while playing games - this is a simple concept of Discord and is very popular. WhatsApp is not as popular as us in western countries , there three-four people of a family or a large family or large groups of college students or even business teams create channels on Discord and stay in touch with each other. We can compare Discord to a room , in which people present can constantly talk to each other in different ways.

Since such chatting is live, there is no moderation , unless someone is recording voice-video (if recording, that's another problem!).

So if your child is playing online multiplayer games and chatting with other players in Discord apps, it's worth at least paying some attention to what they're chatting with , who they're chatting with, etc. There are also many cases where an older person has joined as a teenager in games for teenagers and then leads other group members to a private chat as well.

As innocent and useful as mobile looks , it is also dangerous!
