Know the science behind loosening a shoelace while running or jumping? The cord opens in just half a second

New York, September 8, 2020, Tuesday

No matter how expensive the shoes are, everyone experiences a loose fit. Cricketers are also seen re-tying the ropes on the field. Sometimes it is distracting for a batsman to lose his temper. It is very common to loosen a shoelace, but there is a science behind why this happens.

According to research, when a man wears shoes and runs, his feet hit the ground with seven times the force of gravity. At this time the same force returns from the ground according to the law of action and reaction. This shock is tolerated by the muscles of the body but the knot of the shoelace is loosened due to these shocks. The knot is pressed as soon as the foot falls to the ground and it loosens when the foot is in the air. When this happens frequently the shoelace is finally loosened.

A research paper on this was prepared by Christopher Daly, Christine Gregg and Oliver O'Reilly of the University of California, USA. It said the shoelace could open in half a second so it was impossible to keep an eye on it. Even if the shoelace is tightly tied, it can be opened due to physical movement. So even if there is a small hook in the rope, it prevents it from loosening. These hooks work to absorb kinetic energy and horizontal energy.
