By the year 2024, Apple will have to provide the same charging port as the Android phone in Europe

The European Union (EU) has dealt a major blow to the world's largest smartphone maker, Apple. European Union (EU) countries and parliamentarians on Tuesday agreed on a single charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras. As a result, all electronic device makers, including Apple, will have to replace connectors on all iPhones for sale in Europe by 2024. This means that device manufacturers will have to comply with the new conditions by the year 2024.

"We have struck a deal on #CommonCharger," EU Commissioner Thierry Brett tweeted. The European Union believes that this will make it easier for consumers, save them money and help reduce electronic waste in the country.

"The deal we made this morning will save users about 250 million euros (approximately Rs 2,075 crore)," said Thierry Breton, the EU's industry president.

Shocking for Apple

The law does not pose a major problem for Android smartphone makers, but it does pose a major challenge to Apple. In fact, Apple has been using its Lightning port for many years for its iPhones, iPads, AirPods and other accessories. The EU's decision in Teva will be a challenge for Apple, as companies will soon have to provide all their iPhone models with a USB-C port.

Work continues on iPhone with USB-C charging port

According to a report published last month, Apple is already working on an iPhone with a USB-C charging port that could be launched next year. When Apple launches new iPhones, discounts are usually offered on older iPhones so that millions of consumers choose the cheaper variant option.

According to a 2019 study, half of the chargers sold with mobile phones in 2018 had USB micro-B connectors, 29% had USB-C connectors and 21% had lightning connectors.
