Australian scientists discover unique plastic-eating creature: Plastic pollution problem will be eliminated

Scientists were concerned about the disposal of 300 million tons of plastic produced every year in the world. However, a team of Australian scientists has found a solution. He has discovered an insect that can destroy plastic by eating it.

A team from the University of Queensland fed 3 groups of superworms different diets for 3 weeks. The weight of the polystyrene-fed mass also increased.

However this research is not likely to lead to the creation of large-scale worm farms, which are required for the recycling project. So scientists are trying to identify the most effective enzyme in this pest so that it can be used for recycling.

The world produces and produces 300 million tons of plastic every year. Europe produces 26 percent (6.6 million tons) of plastic worldwide and 38 percent of the plastic is buried in the ground. In the United States, only 9 percent (2.8 million tons) of used plastic was recycled in 2012, and the remaining 32 million tons was thrown away.

Research published in Microbial Genomics states that plastics will be cut in some places before experimenting with enzymes. Research has shown that these insects break down the chemical structure of plastics and that 100 such insects destroy 92 milligrams of polythene in 12 hours. With its help, the problem of pollution caused by plastics will be reduced.
