TATA to make iPhone in India, buys Wistron plant for about $125 million


iPhone : TATA has bought the Wistron plant that assembles the iPhone in India. Henceforth, the iPhone will be produced and assembled in India by the TATA Group. The Minister of State for Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, gave this information on his Twitter account on October 27. In which he wrote that in just two and a half years TATA Group will start manufacturing iPhone in India for domestic and international market of India. All the best to TATA Group for taking over Wistron. He further said that thanks to Wistron's contribution in India, a good step has been taken by Apple to create a global supply chain from India with an Indian company.

iPhone 14 is manufactured in Wistron's factory

According to one report, Wistron's factory value is estimated at around $125 million. Talks between TATA Group and Wistron on this deal were going on for about 1 year. This plant of Wistron is known for the production of iPhone 14. Currently more than 10 thousand workers are working in this plant.

Wistron started production of iPhone in 2017

Wistron entered the Indian market in 2008. At that time this company was also providing repairing facility for many devices. Then in 2017, Wistron expanded its operation and started production of iPhone for Apple.

TATA ventured into electronics manufacturing and e-commerce

The TATA Group is involved in many technical service companies ranging from salt. Currently, this company has ventured into electronics manufacturing and e-commerce. The group currently manufactures iPhone chassis at its factory in Tamil Nadu. Which forms the metal body of this device. Apart from this, Chairman N Chandrasekhar has expressed his desire to enter the chipmaking business first.
