Now contactless fingerprint system for Aadhaar


Currently, when we want to unlock the smartphone, depending on the model of the phone, we have to touch the power button on the back of the phone or on the screen on the front or elsewhere with our thumb or other finger. Similarly, when we want to prove our identity with the help of Aadhaar system in various places, we have to put our thumb or other finger on a small device connected by wire to the phone or computer. Touch has so far been important in the use of fingerprints. But now the exercise of removing touch from the whole thing has begun. The Unique Identification Authority of India, which administers the Aadhaar system in India, and the Indian Institute of Technology , Bombay, have jointly started an effort to develop a contactless fingerprint biometric capture system (a lot of work has been done in this direction in other countries as well).

This system will capture fingerprints of multiple fingers for greater accuracy. In the long run, this technology will be added to common mobile phones as well and then the entire system will be integrated with the Aadhaar ecosystem. According to official statistics, in the month of February alone, 2.26 billion authentications were done with the help of Aadhaar at various places and mostly fingerprints were used in all of them!
