Climate change: Himalayas increase threat, natural calamities expected over these 3 states

Climate Change: The risk of natural disasters has also increased due to the situation of climate change in the world. Especially if we talk about India, there is an increased risk of landslides and avalanches on the people living in the Himalayas and central Himalayan hilly areas. Given the current situation, it seems that this risk may increase in the future as well. According to scientists, this entire area falls under the highly sensitive category.
Highest landslide risk over Himachal, Uttarakhand and Ladakh
The Himalayas were formed due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. Due to the movement of the Indian plate towards the north (China), the rocks are under constant pressure, causing them to become brittle and weak. Due to which the incidents of landslides are continuously increasing and the danger of earthquakes also increases. Due to climate change, the incidence of landslides and avalanches will not only increase but also create havoc. Himachal, Uttarakhand and Ladakh can be affected the most. According to a study published in the journal Earth's Future, Himachal, Uttarakhand and Ladakh are now in the highly vulnerable category in terms of landslides.
An alarming 6-fold increase in landslide incidence
According to a report, the incidence of major landslides in Himachal has increased alarmingly by 6 times by 2022. The state has 17,120 landslide-prone sites, of which 675 are close to critical infrastructure and settlements. According to the data, 20,196 landslides occurred in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh between 2000 and 2017. 1674 incidents have been reported in Himachal Pradesh, 11219 in Uttarakhand, 7280 in Jammu and Kashmir and 23 in Ladakh.
