ISRO gives big update on moon temperature, just a step between unbearable heat and bone-chilling cold


ISRO has released a new update on Chandrayaan-3. In which information is given about the temperature at the south pole of the moon. The near-surface and surface temperatures of the Moon are indicated by graphs. This temperature is recorded at different depths. According to ISRO, it has been recorded during the entry of investigation. This is the first profile of its kind for the south pole of the Moon, ISRO further said. It is now being closely monitored.

India is the first country to do so

ChaSTE on the Vikram lander measures the temperature of the Moon's mantle around the South Pole. With its help the surface temperature of the moon can be understood. ChaSTE is a payload temperature measuring instrument. It can reach a depth of 10 cm and check the temperature there. The payload contains 10 different temperature sensors. A graph shared by ISRO shows the difference in surface or near-surface temperatures of the Moon recorded at different depths. This is the first probe at the Moon's South Pole, making India the first country to do so.

ISRO has shared a graph from the ChaSTE payload on the Vikram lander. According to this, the surface temperature of the moon is 50 degrees Celsius. At the same time, after going deeper, the surface temperature of the moon decreases rapidly. According to the data recorded on the graph, after going inside 80 mm, the temperature drops to 10 degrees. From this it appears that the surface of the moon is not able to retain heat.

ISRO gave an update

ChaSTE has been developed jointly by scientists from Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) and Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. ISRO had tweeted a day before this and said, We have demonstrated the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the surface of the moon. A rover is also shown running. Now both are doing some in-situ experiments together. Which will continue for the next 10-11 days. Currently, all payloads of the lander and rover are secured.
