Scientists have discovered the world's largest bacteria. Its length is up to 0.4 inches. These bacteria have been found on leaves buried in water-mud at Guadeloupe of the Laser Antilles in the Caribbean.

These bacteria belong to a species called Thiomargarita magnifica. These bacteria can also be seen with the naked eye. Its shape is like a white save. It contains microscopic sulfur granules that make it shine like a pearl.


According to California marine biologist Jean-Marie Wallent, "it is about 5,000 times larger than normal bacteria. For example, in the case of man, we need someone as tall as Mount Everest. ' We know that these bacteria are growing on the mud of the mangrove ecosystem. These bacteria synthesize chemicals just as the leaves process photosynthesis.

The bacterium was discovered in 2009 by Oliver Gross of the University of Antilles in France. No one noticed during this time because Gross thought it was a fungus because of its shape.

Bacteria are usually single-celled organisms. These organisms do not have a nucleus. Bacteria are found almost everywhere on earth and are important for the earth's ecosystem. It took Gross and other researchers five years to realize that it was a bacterium.
