WhatsApp's technique of curbing forwarded messages works, 70% less viral messages

The easier it is to spread rumors and fake news on social media, the harder it is to monitor. But if the social media company wants to see it, it can curb it in the blink of an eye.

Fake news spread like wildfire on social media after the Corona virus spread around the world. WhatsApp then restricted message forwarding to one person, before any message could be forwarded to five people at once.

WhatsApp's trick to curb rumors has worked. Forwarded messages on WhatsApp have dropped by 70 per cent since the company's decision. WhatsApp has provided the information.

WhatsApp released a statement saying there was a 70 per cent drop in fast forwarding messages. What is special is that this change has been seen in just two weeks after the launch of the feature.

The World Health Organization also warned all countries around the world about the news going viral on social media. Let's say that if a message is forwarded more than five times, then WhatsApp considers it as a highly forwarded message.

It is to be mentioned that in the year 2018, WhatsApp first curbed forwarding, after which a message was forwarded to five people at a time. The decision to limit message forwarding to five was followed by a 25 per cent drop in viral messages. Two years later, the technique has reduced viral messaging by 79 percent.
