Ahmedabad. 13 April 2020 Monday

According to a news report, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has now been informed by its 194 member countries, including India, that cybercriminals are trying to launch ransomware attacks on major hospitals around the world fighting Covid-19.

You may remember that all three years ago, on May 12th, 2017, an outbreak of storms spread across the world - a 'ransomware' was being hit on computers all over Europe and Asia. The program, known as "WannaCry", has racked up more than two million computers in nearly 100 countries, and has named Wonacrya in the most comprehensive and dangerous cyberattack in history. Ransomware is a type of program that enters a computer and encrypts all of its data, meaning that the original owner of the data can no longer use it. Ransom is demanded to keep the data unchanged. England's National Health Service (NHS) hospitals, along with other computers around the world, were targeted by Wonnacray Ransomware.

According to the latest news, hackers have tried cyberattack at a UK research institute developing a vaccine for the World Health Organization (WHO) network and treating Covid-19. Last month, on March 1st, a hacking group activated a site with a fake system like WHO's email system. The purpose was to steal WHO employees' credentials - the username. The attack came to the attention of Cyber Experts, so the attack failed.

The good news is that with the corona virus, medical institutions around the world have been under tremendous pressure and cybersecurity professionals have become active in protecting them when their cyberattacks have increased.

An Expert from an intelligence startup named ClearSky Cybersecurity Limited, operating in Tel Aviv, Israel, has created a team called 'CTI League'. CTI means Countering Threat Intelligence.
